The 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation is a team of experienced educators that have over 20 years of experience helping minority students graduate from high school and get into college. We have teamed up to form a foundation that’s going to be dedicated to building teams of 5 college ready scholars and placing them on the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Andrew H. Ragland - President & Founder
Andrew H. Ragland received his undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from The University of West Georgia. He earned his teacher certification at Southern University at New Orleans and his Masters in School Counseling from Clark Atlanta University. Andrew also has an Education Specialist Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Troy University.
Andrew is a charter Teach For America (TFA) Corps member. Andrew has over 7 years of classroom teaching experience and over 15 years’ experience as a school counselor. 9 of those years have been at the high school level. As a high school counselor, Andrew has traveled thousands of miles on college tours with his students. Andrew has also helped his students get awarded millions of dollars of scholarships. Andrew’s former students have been accepted to Duke University, Morehouse College, The University of Georgia, Claflin University, Savannah State University, The College of Wooster, Bard College, Wake Forest, Howard University and many others. Andrew’s mission as a high school counselor has always been to help young men grow into successful, productive citizens that will give back to their community.
Cassandra Bolding is currently serving in her eighth year as a Professional School Counsellor with Atlanta Public Schools. As a former student and graduate of Atlanta Public Schools, she is especially proud to return to the place where she received her very own educational foundation. In 2011, she received the counselor of the year award and notes this as one of the many highlights in her career. Prior to her entrance into the school system, she spent one year working as a contractor and family consultant with the Division of Family and Children Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Cassandra spent the next two years serving as a Motoring Program Coordinator and then Executive Director for a local non-profit organization whose focus was to provide academic, personal/social, and career support to at-risk youth. She has more than 12 years of volunteer and work experience with youth populations. Cassandra earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Mercer University and Georgia State University, as well as a Master’s degree and Specialist degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of West Georgia. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and fine dining with her husband and two young daughters.
Harold M. Beasley
Harold Beasley, a native of Atlanta, received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. He received a Master’s in School Counseling from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Harold has experience as a trail blazing scholar, a counselor and a graduation coach. This experience has enabled him to have a positive college and career impact on literally hundreds of students that have matriculated through high school and college. His affiliations with colleges and universities by serving on the Board of Universities like Presbyterian College, University of Georgia, Johnson C. Smith, University of California and The Ohio State University, has immensely benefited the students and universities which he served. Harold currently serves as the highly effective graduation coach of Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in the Atlanta Public Schools Independent School District.
Dr. Corey Sheffield
Dr. Corey Sheffield received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Voorhees College and shortly thereafter, he entered the field of education starting in the classroom as a science teacher teaching earth and life sciences. After several years in the classroom, Dr. Sheffield transitioned into college counseling helping students to understand the importance of post-secondary options. Dr. Sheffield also holds a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Clark Atlanta University and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.
Dr. Sheffield currently serves as the Director of College Advisement at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate High School. With more than 8 years of experience in college counseling, Dr. Sheffield has helped many of his students get accepted into some of the best college across the United States: Spelman College, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, Howard University,Syracuse University, Florida A & M University, University of Notre Dame, and many others. As a product of 2 HBCU's, he is excited to be a part of an organization that will help mold and produce leaders that will be trained at HBCU's. Leaders that will ultimately take that training and knowledge to make a significant impact in their communities and the world.
He is a member of professional organizations such as the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) and the Southern Association of College Admissions Counselors (SACAC). In his spare time time he enjoys working out and spending time with family and friends.
