Dr. Cheryl Davis Lewis is a recent retiree from public education. She served Houston Independent School District for over 34 years as a teacher, teacher leader, assistant principal, principal and lead principal; 29 of those years as principal. For eight years, Dr. Lewis served as principal for two schools and 1,500 students simultaneously; under her leadership, both were honored with stellar ratings from the Texas Education Agency and one was recognized as one of the “Best Schools in Texas” by Texas Monthly Magazine and the other as “best school for educating immigrant children.”
Dr. Lewis also became mentored and assessed her colleagues and supervised aspiring principals in university principal prep programs. She has been honored by various organizations for her leadership in education including Texas Southern University, Top Ladies of Distinction, Zeta Phi Beta, Cornerstone Community of Faith, and National Women of Achievement.
Dr. Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and English from Texas A&M, Commerce Texas and a master’s of education and a doctorate of education from Texas Southern University. Dr. Lewis is the mother of two and enjoys bike-riding, exercising, live music, travel, cooking, and reading.
